Acting audition: how to win, secrets and suggestions
Acting audition: Whether you are a new actor trying out for a local play, or a well seasoned one trying out for a leading part on Broadway , auditioning can be a rather nerve wracking experience. A terrible acting audition can ruin an acting career abruptly.
The first time I auditioned for a part in a play was horrendous. I had myself believing that I couldn't do it before I ever entered the room. This is a huge mistake that new actors often make. If you don't believe that you can do it, how can you make others believe that you can? Know your material, practice it, research it, live it! Be as prepared as possible before you even consider trying out. Never try out for a part without feeling that you yourself can do it. When you walk into an auditioning room with confidence, others will see it as well. Your own self confidence can be a huge deciding factor when cuts are being made.
The second mistake that actors make is trying out for roles that are completely wrong for them. Whether you like it or not, some roles will be completely out of your league. Remember this as you decide what to try out for. You know more than anybody what you are capable of doing. When you read through a screenplay or script, try to visualize yourself as the character you want to go after. If you can't picture it, producers more than likely won't either. Therefore, this for you will be a waste of time and energy.
The biggest mistake people make is, turning something that should be enjoyable into a bad situation. Regardless of what part you go for, a leading role or a small one, you should be enjoying what you are doing. If this is your chosen profession or something that you just do for fun, have fun with it. Enjoy the whole process and learn how to take constructive criticism. No actor is going to get every role they try out for. If you don't show excitement and thrill about what you are doing, you are less likely to be picked for the part.
So, be confident, be prepared, be aware of your talents, visualize, and be happy! Follow these tips so that your next acting audition turns out to be a great experience..
